Turning a business dispute into a positive experience

A lot of business disputes are about people and money.

Business disputes can be stressful, costly and time consuming – They can take you away from running your successful business and can wear you down. If you are a successful business person you will want to focus on the positives and spend time working on your business. You will also want to make sure that you are commercial about how much time and money you spend in resolving your business dispute.

There are 5 ways to deal with a business dispute:

1. Do nothing, ignore it, hope it goes away.

2. Give the other person/company/business that you are in dispute with whatever they want.

3. Negotiate a deal with the other person/company/business that you are in dispute with.

4. Commence proceedings, assert your rights and have a judge make a decision on who wins and who loses (litigation).

5. Engage a third party to assist you and the other person/company/business come to a decision that you can both ‘live with’ (mediation).

The right approach will differ with the circumstances of each dispute. When deciding which is the best option for you and your business, we will help you understand not only your legal position, but the commercial reality of your options.
