Amendments to the unfair contract terms (UCT) regime are now in effect, meaning entering or relying on unfair terms in standard form consumer or small business contracts may lead to higher penalties, up to $50 million. 

The new regime broadens the definition of small businesses to those with fewer than 100 employees or under $10 million in turnover – now encompassing 98.3% of Australian businesses.
